The Video Production Process

Personal service every step of the way

Commissioning a video can be daunting the first time. How will the process work and how can you be sure that you will be happy with the finished product? At Mole, we have a clear process for creating videos, which ensures that you are involved, informed and consulted at every stage. We aim to make the process easy, enjoyable and rewarding for everyone involved.

Here's how a typical video project might run:

Early stages - meeting, pitching, understanding

When we first speak to you about your project, we will aim to find out as much as possible, both about the video project and about your organisation. We will seek to understand your aims and your audience, and what you are hoping to achieve. Ideally, we will meet you face to face to get a better understanding. We will then quote for the work along with our ideas on how we would tackle the project. We are happy to do this formally, with a full pitch, or less formally, with conversations and a written quotation.

Step One - Pre Production

Once you choose to work with Mole, we will assign a project manager who will work with you throughout your project. Our first task is then to understand fully the aims of the video, and to start work on planning the video. This stage is known as pre-production, and its aim is to ensure that before we start filming, we have planned the video in full. This makes sure that you are completely happy with the plans for the video before a single second of footage is filmed.

During the pre-production, we will look at treatment (the style of the video), contents (the main messages of the video), and a script and storyboard (which lays out shot by shot how the video will look). Depending on the scope of your video, this may be a quick process, or each of these may be a major document which we will ask you to sign off at each stage.

Either way, we will make sure that you are 100% happy with the plans for your video before filming begins.

If you are working with a presenter, they will be selected during pre-production. Locations for filming will be chosen, and filming will be scheduled. Our filming days are carefully planned to ensure that we gather all the necessary footage, and to make it easy for everyone involved, from our client, to interviewees and presenters.

Production

filmingProduction is the filming phase of your video project. Our camera crews will gather the footage needed to create your finished video. We work in a huge variety of locations, from offices and schools to theatres, hospitals and power stations. Our crews are used to working with interviewees who may not have appeared on camera before, and will put them at ease at make the process as easy and enjoyable as possible.

Post-production

Once the filming is complete, we will create a first draft edit of your video based on the script and storyboard we have already agreed with you. At this stage we will record any voiceover needed, introduce music and work on any graphics (2D or 3D) which are required.

Once the first draft is conplete we will review it with you and listen to your feedback. We will then work on the video to create a finished end product.

When you are happy that the finished video is just what you were looking for, we then create the final formats. This might involve putting the video onto DVD, CD, the internet or even good old VHS. We can design and create DVD menus, web pages, and all the packaging for your discs and tapes. We can also arrange duplication of copies - from 10 to 10,000.

Managing the process

Smooth running of your project is very important to us. Your project manager will create a project plan at the start of the project, outlining all the key stages and dates in order to meet your deadline. Your project manager will work very closely with you throughout the project, keeping you updated on any changes, and making sure things run to schedule. If helpful, we will provide weekly summaries to everyone involved. It's very improtant to us that at the end of the project you are not only happy with your finished video, but have enjoyed working with us - and we hope you'll want to work with us again very soon!
